How We Spent 5 Days in Nice, France (And Why I’d Do It All Over Again)
Gluten-free pizza, rooftop views, day trips to Monaco, and just the right amount of gelato.
Why Nice, Why Now?
Nice, France was the final stop on our 10-day European adventure, and after the fast-paced energy of big cities and Olympic crowds, the Mediterranean calm was exactly what we needed. We spent 5 days soaking up the sun, walking cobblestone streets, exploring castles and markets, and eating the best gluten-free pizza of my life, and honestly? I’d do it all again in a heartbeat.
Here’s exactly how we spent our time, where we stayed, what we ate, and what I’d recommend for your next French Riviera adventure.
Day 1: Arrival & Old Town Pizza Dreams
Where We Stayed – Airbnb Apartment in Nice
We booked a cozy Airbnb in the heart of Nice, complete with a much-needed air conditioner, kitchen, washer, and stunning views of Castle Hill and the city’s rooftops. The bedroom was spacious, the location ideal (just a few minutes from tram and bus stops), and we could walk to the beach and Old Town in under 20 minutes.
To Note: Most of the elevators in apartments are…. small. And can only hold one person at a time.
Tip: For summer visits, prioritize a unit with A/C… trust me on this one.

What We Did
After settling in, we walked through Old Town (Vieux Nice), a lively maze of colorful buildings, shops, and restaurants. Using the Find Me Gluten Free app, we found GiGi Tavola, which instantly became my favorite restaurant of the trip. Their allergy-friendly kitchen served me the best pepperoni pizza I’ve ever had (gluten-free or not), while my friend Olive went for the truffle pizza.
We sat outside, watching yachts drift in and out of the harbor as the sun set over the Nice Pier. Talk about a picture-perfect first night.

Day 2: Day Trip to Monaco
Morning Train Ride
We grabbed croissants and coffee before hopping on a 30-minute train to Monaco, booked easily in advance through the Omio app. Expect standing room only during peak summer/Olympic season, but the coastal views more than make up for it.
Lunch in Monaco
We stopped at Babek Kebab for a quick bite. Gluten-free options were scarce (especially in the heat), so I took a risk on a pizza wrap. Not gluten-free, but my mild allergy gave me some wiggle room. I would not recommend this place to someone gluten-free, as everyone reacts differently. For me, I’ve noticed I can eat small amounts of gluten while in France and have no issues.

Palace, Cars, and Casinos
We climbed up to the Prince’s Palace, which included a surprisingly detailed and fascinating audio tour. Next, we toured the Prince’s Car Collection, where F1 fans (me) will geek out over Ferrari race cars, European classics, and even a few movie vehicles.
After that, we walked part of the Monaco Grand Prix track and peeked at the packed Monte Carlo Casino, but skipped it due to long lines and the extreme heat.

Dinner Back in Nice
Exhausted, we picked up meats, cheeses, and snacks at a local grocery store and made our own charcuterie board back at the Airbnb. Simple, delicious, and stress-free.
Day 3: Exploring Nice by Train & Gelato
Morning Market Wandering
We explored a seaside market filled with lavender goods, fresh produce, and handmade crafts. With coffee in hand, it was the perfect way to start a slower day.

Le Petit Train de Nice
Around noon, we hopped on Le Petit Train de Nice, a touristy but totally worthwhile mini train that took us through the city and up to Castle Hill. The panoramic views from the top are stunning, and while the stop is brief (just 10 minutes), it gave us a taste of the peaceful hilltop park.
Tip: If you have time, return to Castle Hill for a longer visit. It’s perfect for picnicking, exploring ruins, or just relaxing in the shade.

Lunch + Recharge
We headed back to the Airbnb for lunch and some air-conditioned downtime. Much needed.
Dinner (Yes, Again) at GiGi Tavola
Round two at GiGi Tavola was all about their gluten-free lasagna, while Olive tried the truffle pasta. It was every bit as incredible as our first meal. I’d fly back to Nice just for this restaurant.
We wrapped the night with gelato and a sunset stroll through Old Nice, gelato in hand.

Day 4: Beach Day at Bocca Mar
Finding a Beach Club
Most of the beach clubs in Nice don’t take reservations and fill up fast, like, within the first hour of opening. After some trial and error, we found chairs at Bocca Mar Beach Club (back row, but still great). We spent the entire day lounging, reading, and soaking up our last full day in Europe.

Lunch Struggles
Gluten-free options were tough to come by, and I don’t eat seafood. So… I had fries. And mini potatoes. Which are basically… also fries.
Not the most thrilling meal, but the view made up for it.
Final Night
That evening, we packed, showered, and headed out for one last gelato walk through the streets of Nice.
Day 5: Travel Day Tips & Tricks
Smooth Airport Vibes
Nice’s airport was a breeze. I didn’t check a bag, so security was quick. But Olive had a much slower experience; only one Delta staffer was handling check-ins for multiple flights. Go early if you’re checking luggage!
Customs Hack: Use the MPC App
The MPC (Mobile Passport Control) app is a game-changer. I skipped a projected 3-hour customs line in Atlanta and breezed through in under 5 minutes. Olive had the same experience at JFK. It’s free, fast, and requires no pre-approval.
Highly recommend downloading before your next international trip.
Final Thoughts: Would I Do It All Again?
In a heartbeat.
Nice is one of those places that feels effortless. The city’s beauty, walkability, and warm energy are impossible to ignore. We explored markets and castles, ate incredible food (shoutout GiGi Tavola forever), took easy day trips, and soaked in the sun on pebbled beaches. It was the perfect mix of sightseeing, down time, and unforgettable moments.
If you’re planning a trip to the South of France, Nice is the perfect home base, especially if you’re gluten-free, love coastal views, or just want to feel like you’re living in a movie for a few days.
Have questions about planning your trip? Drop them in the comments! Or share your own favorite Nice memories, I’d love to add them to my list for next time.
